Mechanism 8

Brightlight

The age-old question of Chaos Theory: what happens to the weather in New York when a butterfly flaps its wings in Africa? Quite frankly, who cares? :) But I do like pretty pictures, and the Mandelbrot is a universe that not only produces pretty pictures, but is fascinating to study. Unfortunately, it takes lots of power to draw the Mandelbrot fractal, so I wrote a real-time fractal zoomer using hand-optimized SSE to calculate 4 points at once in the Mandelbrot equation. This program requires a CPU with SSE support (Pentium 3 or Athlon XP or higher).

Features:

  • Released under the GNU GPL
  • Hand-optimized SSE assembly Mandelbrot zoomer
  • Full interactive control using mouse input
  • Palette animation effects
